From generalist to healthcare hub leader

I received my bachelor’s in information & technology and a postgraduate degree in advanced computing. I joined QuantumBlack about five years ago as a data engineer and it’s been an exciting ride so far.

I have worked on multiple analytics projects, where my role was to work alongside data scientists, business analysts, and clients to set up entire data ecosystems, including data modelling and data pipelines, for analytics use cases.

Generalist to specialist

Initially, I played a generalist data engineering role and have since specialized in healthcare and built my expertise in the industry. I started a healthcare-specific data engineering hub from the ground up in India, and we quickly scaled from a one-member to a 10-member team, and we’re ready to grow more.

Motivating and supporting me to step into this leadership role is proof McKinsey believes in and commits to building leaders from within. I don’t think that exists in other organizations the way it does here.

My “only at McKinsey” project

The project was for a prestigious pharmaceutical client who has a presence around the world. And what made it so special is we executed it at scale, across four countries — in parallel.

We leveraged data engineering, machine learning, and cloud technology to build a scaled data-driven content recommendation system to help medical representatives make the right decisions at the right time for sales optimization.

That kind of endeavor was possible because of the depth of expertise across the firm’s technologists, industry experts, and consultants, and because we approached the problem with an asset/product mindset.

The impact has been tremendous so far. The solution reduced implementation efforts and costs by more than 40%.

What I love about McKinsey

I meet some of the most brilliant minds in the world here, and I am in this never-ending learning loop, which I love. McKinsey perfectly blends technology, business, and people to drive meaningful impact.
