How well are digital tools serving your maintenance organization?

Digital maintenance tools show great promise—so long as employees can actually use them.

An experienced Lean Management practitioner, Joel is based out of McKinsey's Montréal office, focusing on organizational and operational transformations both in manufacturing and the service industry.

As Industry 4.0 continues to transform manufacturing and production, digital tools have become increasingly critical to maintaining equipment that itself is becoming more and more digital.

But the tools that maintenance and reliability organizations have at their disposal aren’t always up for the task. Computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) infrastructure may not integrate well with maintenance work-management processes. The user interfaces may be complex and unintuitive, yet company leaders may not see improvement as a priority. They may not see the potential cost savings and efficiency increases that can result from improved user experience—or have a view on which aspects of work-management process could most benefit.

To better understand these concerns and find ways to address them, we’d like to hear from operations professionals through our 2-minute survey on key aspects of maintenance digitization. We’ll report back on the results once we have reached a statistically significant number of responses. All reporting will be in aggregate, and individual responses are strictly confidential. Thank you for your participation.
