Over the past ten years, as the world has changed and evolved, McKinsey has as well – ultimately affecting the characteristics of the alumni population.
The increasing role emerging markets have played in the global economy has led to growth in the Firm’s client service activities in these regions. New offices opened in 40 cities – Lagos, Baku, and Hanoi to name a few – and a growing alumni presence followed, leading to a population that is more globally diverse than ever.

From a sector and function perspective, the exponential growth in the Firm’s Operations Practice during the 2000s prepared many to take related roles after their departure. Additionally, the rise of digitization – not only in technology but also in many consumer-facing sectors – has fueled entirely new and innovative client service models and a growing number of McKinsey alumni in these areas. More alumni are working in analytics and tech-heavy marketing and sales roles, and we expect that trend to continue.

While much has changed, some things have not. Alumni presence in financial services remains very strong, and general management and strategy continue to be the most likely roles alumni will take on.

As the network continues adapting to a changing world, we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments and innovations that our alumni pioneer. Please help us continue the story by updating your profile and sharing your news with us.
