About Tim

In his 26 years with the firm, Tim has served clients throughout the financial-services and consumer industries. Across industries, the common theme in Tim’s work has been developing strategies to help companies adapt their business models to the rapidly evolving changes in consumer expectations.

Throughout his career, much of Tim’s client work has focused on financial services—banking, insurance, and wealth management. In this sector, he has worked extensively on marketing to consumers and small businesses, and developing strategies that generate significant growth. In addition, his work in other industries has focused primarily on understanding consumer behavior and developing strategies to respond to consumer preferences.

Some examples of his recent work include:

  • transforming the distribution network and the business model of one of the nation's leading life insurers in order meet new consumer preferences and drive growth
  • developing a wide range of strategic and operational-improvement opportunities for a major bank that are intended to increase customer satisfaction and position the institution for future growth
  • implementing significant growth and margin improvements for a major consumer company based on a detailed understanding of consumer shopping behavior

Within McKinsey, much of his work is rooted in his passion for helping people to keep learning and growing so that they can achieve their full potential. For example, Tim helped create Partner University, an innovative learning program that has been profiled in Chief Learning Officer and won the 2016 Gold Medal for Excellence in Leadership Development from the Brandon Hall Group. In addition, Tim also invests significant time supporting and coaching individuals and was recognized in 2016 by Twin Cities Business for being a “Marvelous Mentor.”

Tim cares passionately about helping the Minneapolis-St. Paul community thrive. He is one of the founders of the Itasca Project, a coalition of business, government, and not-for-profit leaders focused on building a vibrant economy and improved quality of life for all people in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.

In addition, Tim serves as the board chair for the Greater Twin Cities United Way, president of the board of trustees at St. Paul Academy and Summit School, immediate past chair of the board of Greater MSP, governance and audit committee chair for the GHR Foundation, member of the board of the Minnesota Orchestra, member of the board of Commonweal Magazine, and member of the board of Minnesota Philanthropy Partners. Tim’s work in the community has been recognized by the Mayor of Minneapolis and by Catholic Charities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
