Steffen co-leads our integrated care work in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He works exclusively with the healthcare and pharma sectors, serving healthcare payors and providers, as well as pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
Before joining McKinsey in 2000, Steffen was a researcher at the German Cancer Research Centre, where his work focused on tumor immunology. A PhD in pharmacology, he has published more than 20 scientific articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Steffen’s recent projects have included post-merger integration, operating model redesign, performance transformation, and corporate strategy. As both a former researcher and a former pharmacist, he brings valuable operational and technical insights to all of his projects.
A contributor to the McKinsey Quarterly, Steffen’s recent publications include “How to design a successful disease-management program,” where he discusses how to successfully coordinate the delivery of high-quality care to patients with chronic conditions.
