Sean O’Connell joined McKinsey in 2005. He has extensive experience in international and Russian healthcare systems, branded generics in pharmaceuticals, strategy, and corporate finance. Most recently, Sean has been leading McKinsey’s knowledge development initiative on the reform of the Russian healthcare system and its implications for pharmaceutical companies.
Recent examples of Sean’s work include: development of growth strategies for leading global healthcare and medical products companies in Russia; product portfolio review, and the development of a strategy and its launch in Russia and CIS for a global generics pharmaceutical company; M&A and business development strategy in Russia for a global medical devices company; post-merger management and reorganization strategy and implementation for a major Russian pharmaceutical company, with a special focus on salesforce effectiveness and improvement; due diligence and structured negotiations process for a leading global pharma company seeking to acquire mobile health and emerging technologies companies in Russia.
Before joining McKinsey, Sean worked on Wall Street as a buy-side analyst at Columbus Circle Investors, covering pharmaceutical and medical technologies spaces, and at the World Bank as a healthcare and financial sector economist for Central and Eastern Europe, covering healthcare and financial systems reforms.
