As a leader of McKinsey’s global client service on megaprojects, Michael advises governments and private firms. He brings more than three decades of experience in program and construction management on major projects, as well as deep expertise in building and leading diverse execution teams to complete major projects on time and on budget. He has also led many recovery interventions to reduce cost and schedule overruns in troubled projects.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Michael served as director of program and construction management at The Shaw Group, where he led a diversified portfolio of multibillion-dollar construction projects. He was previously with Bechtel, where he led a variety of complex projects in the United States and globally, in sectors including defense, oil and gas, power, and rail and road infrastructure.
Over the course of his career, Michael has played leadership roles in some of the world’s largest and most complex construction projects, as well as in major recovery projects following man-made and natural disasters.
For example, he oversaw one of the largest-ever harbor-infrastructure projects in the United States, as well as major mine expansions and wastewater projects. He also led emergency repair projects following Hurricane Sandy in the US and environmental-restoration projects following a major oil spill.
Michael serves on the Utilities & Infrastructure Committee of the Construction Industry Institute (CII) and is a member of the American Association of Cost Engineers International (AACE). He regularly presents at major industry conferences on topics including construction productivity and digital innovation.
