About Michael

Michael leads Digital McKinsey in Southeast Asia as well as the Singapore hub of McKinsey Digital Campus in Asia. He has over 20 years of professional experience in the technology, media and telecommunications sector.

Michael is passionate about understanding the business impact of disruptive technologies. His areas of expertise include advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), the mobile Internet and augmented/virtual reality.

Since joining McKinsey in 2000, Michael has focused much of his work advising telecommunications and technology executives across the world on a wide range of issues related to technology, strategy, transformation, operations, and marketing. Michael’s recent client work includes:

  • working with a leading telecommunications organisation on a digital-transformation strategy
  • rebranding and redesigning the portfolio for a mobile challenger
  • supporting a client with negotiations for a network-sharing deal
  • designing a large-scale transformation for the entire operations of a fixed-line incumbent’s broadband, TV, and fiber-optics businesses
  • leading the spectrum- and 4G-rollout strategy for a mobile challenger

In addition to serving clients, Michael has been instrumental in driving McKinsey’s strategic initiatives in Digital, such as building the Singapore McKinsey Digital Campus, leading the development of new knowledge on disruptive technologies, and highlighting McKinsey's digital capabilities, including the Digital Quotient (DQ), a benchmarking capability that assesses an organization's digital maturity.

Outside of work, Michael is an active angel investor in technology companies. He is also a member of the sub-committee on future growth industries and markets, as part of Singapore’s Committee on the Future Economy.
