About Mehdi

Mehdi is a partner in McKinsey’s Johannesburg office. A member of our Public Sector Practice, he leads our Africa Delivery Hub, driving radical improvements in service delivery for Africa’s citizens.

Mehdi’s expertise ranges across the public and private sectors. He supports governments with the development and manufacture of infrastructure equipment, including rolling stock and power-generation turbines. He advises businesses on the sale, set-up, and operation of heavy industrial assets in steel, mining and quarrying, and construction materials. In addition, he has deep expertise in negotiating with and for the public sector on public tenders, contract negotiations, and claims; on price negotiations; and on exploration and mining rights, concessions, and licenses.

Among his client projects, Mehdi has:

  • Supported a global pulp and paper company with its portfolio strategy
  • Conducted a feasibility study for a new railway line in an African country
  • Advised on operational performance programs in an iron-ore mine and a hot-rolled coil steel factory
  • Helped a national railway to develop its freight strategy.

Mehdi’s focus on infrastructure project and equipment negotiations is complemented by a strong commitment to education and vocational training.

Mehdi’s work has taken him around the world. He has advised clients, led teams, closed transactions, set up companies, and served on boards in France, South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, and Japan.

Before joining McKinsey, Mehdi served as the regional president of two large industrial corporations, where he led teams in turning around multiple subsidiaries and capturing international contracts. He graduated from ESCP Europe (Paris) with a master’s degree in public management.
