Based in Zurich, Matthias works mainly with telecom, high tech, and media companies on topics including corporate finance and strategy, business building, organization, operations, and marketing.
Since joining McKinsey in 1997, Matthias has worked with a range of telecom clients from integrated access players to mobile network operators and equipment manufacturers. Among his recent projects, he has advised an integrated access player on its access and fiber strategy, worked with a mobile operator to identify growth opportunities in adjacent markets, supported a Middle Eastern bank, a major card association in Russia, and a global web property in developing their mobile payment strategies, and helped an alternative infrastructure provider plan market entry.
In the media industry, Matthias has advised broadcasters on convergence strategy and growth opportunities.
Matthias helps to direct the research program for McKinsey’s Telecom, Media, and High Tech Practices, and is a member of the leadership group of the European Telecom Practice. He recently led a project to develop perspectives on the future of mobile and how it can respond to the threat from IP messaging and mobile VOIP.
