About Azam

Azam leads our work in the Oil and Gas and Metals and Mining Practices in Southeast Asia, based in Singapore. Since joining McKinsey in 2003, he has worked extensively in the energy sector, with oil and gas exploration-and-production (E&P) companies, including national oil companies, leading international oil companies, entrepreneurial independent oil companies, mining companies, and independent power producers. He serves these organizations on holistic-growth and transformation agendas to help them achieve sustainable improvement at scale. He also serves them on strategy, operational transformations, "mega project" acceleration, and leadership development. Azam has worked with clients across the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and Australia.

Azam's recent work:

  • helping develop both the corporate and capital strategy for an integrated energy company and implementing a transformation and restructuring program
  • advising a Southeast Asian oil company on a gas strategy and road map for gas infrastructure for the country and supporting implementation
  • helping an Asian national oil company achieve sustainable operations improvement by implementing improved reservoir management, production engineering, and drilling processes
  • helping one of the world's largest coal-mining companies with an operational-transformation program
  • working with a large oil-exploration company in in the Middle East on an operations strategy and improvement program for better maintenance, automation, and production optimization
  • serving independents in Australia and Southeast Asia on improving their E&P operations
