About Alexandre

Alexandre (Alex) leads our Recovery & Transformation Services Practice in South America. Since joining the firm in 1990, he has worked across Latin America as well as the United States, Canada, and Turkey. During his 27 years with McKinsey, Alex has served clients in financial services, retail, telecommunications, chemicals, and metals and mining.

Alex specializes in turning around struggling companies by reconfiguring leadership, redesigning business processes, guiding productivity improvements, identifying opportunities, and implementing a performance culture to drive both top- and bottom-line recovery.

Some of his notable client work includes the following:

  • led the turnaround of a struggling financial business by fundamentally transforming its economic model, discontinuing lines, redesigning core processes, recrafting decision making, reallocating capital and resources to a zero basis, reassigning responsibilities, adjusting leadership scope and layers, redeploying commercial coverage, and driving implementation
  • turning around a diversified metals company, reconfiguring its business portfolio, radically driving costs down, and shifting the company’s path to a different cost curve; embedded a new performance culture among the management team; and led the implementation effort
  • led the recovery of a telecom company by resizing its operational and capital expenditures, repositioning its overall productivity, and leveraging commercial, operations, financial, and legal opportunities; redefined the company’s short- and mid-term plans in support of negotiation with creditors and realignment with regulators
  • reconfigured overall management of a leading cash and carry company facing a drastic dive in sales and pressure on margins; designed and led an encompassing turnaround, including both cost and top-line scope
