Co-leads McKinsey’s Purchasing and Supply Management Practice in the Middle East and Europe, helping large companies drive procurement transformations; brings deep experience in capability building and skill-development programs to clients worldwide

Guido Baier, based in our Copenhagen office, co-leads our Purchasing and Supply Management Practice across the Middle East and Europe, and leads our Operations in Infrastructure Service Line in EMEA. Guido has deep experience in helping clients around the world drive step-change improvements in category and operational expenditure, and building their people’s capabilities.

Examples of Guido’s client work include leading a procurement transformation for a major construction company. This entailed establishing a central strategic procurement function; reconfiguring organisational structure, governance and core processes; recruiting the Chief Procurement Officer and his team; shaping a capability building program; and driving improvement in key categories of direct spend. The work led to savings of up to 25 percent across categories.

Guido also led a portfolio of capital expenditure optimisation initiatives to reduce another large institution’s capital spend substantially, while improving operability and total cost of ownership.

Guido has led several major design-to-cost and design-to-value projects, optimising project, building and interior designs across mechanical, electrical and finishing categories—leading to savings of up to 40 percent. He has also led diagnostic initiatives to identify the design optimisation opportunity in residential mega projects, high rises, hospitals and medical facilities.

Guido publishes articles on procurement in leading journals, and regularly speaks at industry conferences and client events.
