The Baby Boom, for 20 years following World War II, produced one of the largest birth cohorts in US history. At nearly 79 million strong (approximately 45 million households), the Boomer generation is 50 percent larger than the Silent generation that preceded it. The Boomers' era began in 1980 when the Boomers overtook the Silents as the largest group of households in the United States and will extend until 2019 when Generation X will finally overtake the Boomers as a share of households. |
