The McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) has been named the number one private sector think tank in the world in the 2017 Global Go to Think Tank Index Report published on January 31, 2018 by the Think Tank and Civil Society Program at the Lauder Institute, University of Pennsylvania. This is the third year in a row that MGI has been awarded this top spot in the global ranking.
The Global Go To Think Tank Index, begun in 2008, is compiled using an international survey of more than 7,500 scholars, public and private donors, policy makers, and journalists who help rank more than 6,600 think tanks using a set of 28 criteria developed by the TTCSP.
TTCSP also named MGI’s 2016 research report: Poorer than their parents: flat or falling incomes in advanced economies as one of the top 50 best Policy Study-Reports produced by a Think Tank in 2016.
The McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), the business and economics research arm of McKinsey & Company, was established in 1990 to develop a deeper understanding of the evolving global economy. MGI's mission is to provide leaders in the commercial, public, and social sectors with the facts and insights on which to base management and policy decisions.
Jacques Bughin (Brussels), James Manyika (San Francisco), and Jonathan Woetzel (Shanghai) are co-directors of MGI, which is chaired by James Manyika. All three are senior partners at McKinsey & Company.
MGI research combines the disciplines of economics and management, employing the analytical tools of economics with the insights of business leaders. Its "micro-to-macro" methodology examines microeconomic industry trends to better understand the broad macroeconomic forces affecting business strategy and public policy.
The partners of McKinsey fund MGI's research; it is never commissioned by any business, government, or other institution. All MGI research is available for free at: www.mckinsey.com/mgi
