Phase 2: Validating the opportunity
After the diagnostic, McKinsey launched four teams to focus on some of the largest cost savings opportunities. These teams had three primary missions:

Validate the ideas generated in the diagnostic

Generate and analyze additional productivity-enhancing ideas through brainstorming sessions with the client's workforce

Develop overarching themes to sustain operational improvements leveraging McKinsey's expertise in areas such as lean manufacturing and supply chain management

Develop implementation plans for major ideas
The teams found as they worked with the units that many great ideas existed throughout the corporation but had never been given a structured and thorough analysis. Using McKinsey's experience in structuring and analyzing tough problems, the client was able to uncover significant potential improvements.
