Client Challenge
One of the largest U.S. government agencies – with over $8 billion in spending on goods and services – wanted to reduce its spending levels and explore new business opportunities.
A Stamford-led consulting team, with the help of McKinsey supply chain experts, identified more than $100 million in savings over the first year in several supply categories. In addition, the team brought private-sector practices to the government procurement process, resulting in a reinvigorated organization that was able to realize savings much more quickly than in the past.
Through a series of workshops, the team also identified opportunities – and the appropriate software partners – for the agency to launch a global, web-based aggregation business to combine volume with other agencies and private companies.
