Nonprofit Initiative - Engineers Without Borders

Since its inception in the Montréal community in 1996, the Montréal office nonprofit group has provided financial support to various Canadian charitable organizations. This year, in addition to financial donations and in an effort to build capacity in the international development sector, the Montréal nonprofit group is proud to dedicate time and resources to Engineers Without Borders and its young and dynamic core management team.

Over the year, we will undertake a series of workshops, provide individual mentorship to key EWB team members, and use our knowledge and expertise to bring best practices in EWB organization, around talent recruitment, leadership development and performance management. We believe that this year commitment to EWB will continue to fulfill the Montréal office’s social aspirations and contribute to EWB’s outstanding growth and success.

Engineers Without Borders, Canada, is an award-winning Canadian charity that promotes human development through access to appropriate technology. In the past 4 years, 100 volunteers have contributed more than 500 people-months overseas, working with local partners to build capacity in the rural technical sector in areas like water and sanitation, agriculture and food processing, and rural energy.

Closer to home, EWB’s 6,000 members work to promote international development in Canada. For their work, EWB has been awarded a half-dozen major national and international awards and featured as one of Canada’s top socially-conscious entrepreneurial organizations.

The organization was co-founded by Parker Mitchell, who began his career as a business analyst in our Montréal office in 1999. "I couldn’t imagine where EWB would be without my experience at McKinsey" says Parker. "The skills that I learned there, the friends I met who helped out, and the support that I received from the whole office was tremendous. When we began we were literally an idea sketched out on a napkin in a coffee shop, and to have the kind of support early on was invaluable. And now that we are a well-respected national charity, I am even more excited that we will officially have McKinsey’s financial support and consulting expertise over the coming year to help us take our operations to the next level of excellence."
