What to include with your application »

NOTES ON APPLYING

  • You must apply on-line.
  • We look for a strong academic record (a CGPA of 3.5 or greater), a record of academic excellence demonstrated in distinguished universities, excellent French and English communication skills, and strong evidence of the qualities listed here.
  • Your CGPA or international equivalent must be stated on your CV.
  • We accept applications for consulting positions all year round. For summer programs, the deadline to apply is usually in January. For students looking for a full-time position beginning in the fall after graduation, the deadline to apply is the September of your last year of studies.
  • If your application is unsuccessful, please note that we will not accept a further application from you for the same role, to any office, within a 12-month period.
  • Unfortunately, if we receive an incomplete application, or you miss the deadline, we may be unable to process your application until the following recruiting season.
  • Applicants are eligible to interview with only one office worldwide. Should you be interested in more than one office, please specify up to four offices in order of preference in your on-line application. If your application passes through the initial phase of the assessment process, a member of our recruiting team will contact you.

WHAT TO INCLUDE WITH YOUR APPLICATION

To ensure that your application is processed, please submit a completed application package on-line, including the documents and information listed below. Please send your package only once.

Office Preference
Specify Montréal or BTO Montreal as your office preference.

Cover Letter
Please include a one-page cover letter explaining why you are interested in management consulting.

A good cover letter satisfies the following criteria:

  • It gives us a strong first impression of who you are both in terms of your background and what makes you stand out from the crowd. We are very interested in what you have achieved in your studies, your working life, or your spare time. This would be where you would explain any gaps or mitigating circumstances not apparent on your CV.
  • It explains your motivation for applying for a job in consulting.
  • It states where you see the fit between yourself and the qualities McKinsey is looking for.
  • It explains how your talents can have an impact on the business world.

CV or Resume
We suggest the following tips in creating your CV to enable us to get a clearer picture of your profile and highlights your achievements:

  • CV should not exceed two pages (one page is ideal)
  • Personal information should include only your name, address, telephone numbers and e-mail
  • You should include your educational background. List educational institutions attended (from CEGEP or University on), dates of attendance, degree obtained, major areas of interest and grade point average, as well as relevant admissions test scores (e.g. GMAT, GRE).
  • Professional experience: list employers, job title and brief description of relevant skills developed
  • Language skills: include proficiency level in English and in French if you are not a native speaker
  • Other interests: list extra curricular activities and hobbies, especially as they relate to your leadership, personal impact and drive

University and Post-Graduate Transcripts
Generally, we would expect you to show a strong academic record, with at least a 3.5 CGPA, or its equivalent.

Essay
You should also include a brief essay outlining your leadership and/or personal impact.
