Project Objective
Formulate a plan to ensure children living in urban neighborhoods have access to high-quality Catholic schools.
Background
The diocese's urban schools were on an unsustainable financial path that would have led to a reduction in access to the schools and a diminishing of overall school quality. A combination of increasing costs and decreasing enrollment was threatening the financial viability of the diocese schools, forcing many to curtail spending on quality.
Efforts to develop a coordinated plan to react to the changing environment had stalled. Diocese and school leaders were focused on their day-to-day responsibilities and didn't have the time to complete the required problem solving, planning, coordination, and communication.
McKinsey was brought in to energize the effort and to assist with crafting a near-term strategy.
