People often ask us to describe a typical project. The answer is always the same – "it depends." Because we work with all types of clients in all types of industries on all types of problems, the make-up of a study team is always different. The only thing that remains constant is our goal – to create impact for our clients that is both lasting and meaningful.

As a McKinsey consultant you may work on projects that last anywhere from 6 weeks to 1 year. Your team might include 10 people or it might be just you and a partner. Some projects are in town, others involve travel across the globe. You may work with a new healthcare client helping to design and build capabilities within a new purchasing organization. Or, you may join a strategy study with a long-standing financial institution client who is seeking new ways to exploit its retail branch infrastructure.
