A leading Chinese mobile operator faced severe IT platform issues—including slow time-to-market for new-product launches, revenue leakage, and limited support for marketing activities—that inhibited its future growth aspirations. With continued high growth in both its customer base and call volume, the client faced increasing operational risk.

IT Transformation
McKinsey conducted a review of the company’s business initiatives and its strategic IT plan. During the initial diagnostic, it became apparent that not only did the client need to improve its IT systems, it also needed to strengthen its IT organization and management capabilities. Subsequently, we helped the client design a two-year IT transformation and capability-building program that redefined the role of technology in supporting business objectives, how to deliver world-class IT services, and the recruitment and development of IT talent.
