Case Study - Growth through Acquisition for a European Retailer in China

Growth through Acquisition for a European Retailer in China

Client Problem
A large European retailer in the home-improvement business wanted to enter China’s retail market by opening new stores and acquiring existing stores. However, the retailer did not know how to integrate the IT systems of the new stores into its expanding retail network.

IT Transformation
McKinsey helped the client develop a new IT platform for its new stores that was compatible with its existing network.

Client Impact
The client expanded its retail network, drawing on operational best practices and by establishing a standardized IT platform. Our client was able to accelerate growth, lower procurement costs, and turn-around underperforming stores, with average week-on-week sales increasing by 10 to 15 percent.
