What to Expect
What to ExpectWe are as committed to our people as we are to our clients. Making sure that our new consultants get off to a good start is one of our priorities. We make every effort to ensure the integration and professional development of our new colleagues so they can grow quickly.

Professional Development: Life at McKinsey is defined by constantly learning, growing, and building new skills. The key ingredients of professional development are:

Staffing:
You get to work on a variety of client engagements and knowledge initiatives across industries and functions, giving you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and experience. When assigning individuals to projects, we take into account not just the needs of the project but also the consultant’s preferences and her/his skills and development needs.

Team experience:
Working in a team means truly experiencing the McKinsey culture of apprenticeship and collaboration. It also involves effectively managing your own work, meeting deadlines, helping create a risk-free environment, giving and receiving feedback, participating in team discussions, and working together to achieve impact.

Learning:
In addition to the informal coaching you get from your senior colleagues and the skills you build as you work on projects, we have formal training programs that help you develop and hone your skills on every level. These range from the basics of business management to deep problem solving, from communicating with impact to building client relationships, and from working effectively in teams to becoming a leader.

Feedback:
Feedback, both formal and informal, is a powerful learning tool. Team members provide constructive feedback to help you improve, and we expect you to do the same. In addition, your development group leader (DGL) provides counsel on all aspects of your professional development. Your DGL keeps track of your performance and provides you with formal feedback based on input from your teams and the partnership group's evaluation of your performance at the semi-annual reviews.
"Being in Mckinsey is a journey towards personal and professional development, growth and maturity; a truly unique individual experience." -Panagiotis, Business Analyst
