Tell us about yourself.

I’m recently married and already have a delightful one-year-old son. Family is the centre of my life. My spare time is spent travelling, walking, and taking photographs.

Tell us a bit about your career before McKinsey.

I started my working life at McKinsey. I worked as a business analyst for two years before joining the British diplomatic service. I had a fantastic time as a diplomat, spending most of my time in China. I decided to return to McKinsey because I’d always been impressed by its energy, positive approach, and opportunities to learn.

What made McKinsey seem like a good fit for you?

I really enjoy the ambition and sense of purpose that McKinsey nurtures. Since I’ve been here I’ve worked on all sorts of projects, many of which address enormous social or public policy questions. Indeed, I’ve found my ability to influence public policy greater at McKinsey that I did as a diplomat.

Additionally, I’m a big fan of the culture. It’s much more understated than people probably realise. There are lots of good, smart people working here, who take great pleasure in supporting their colleagues. This makes for a supportive learning environment.

How did you 'make your own McKinsey'?

I’ve tried lots of different things and worked in many sectors. I’ve settled now in the Health Care Practice, which has been a tremendous engine of growth for the office and has a fantastic entrepreneurial spirit and great people.
