What is it like being part of the BA cohort?
As a cohort you see each other a lot – at trainings, over lunch, at social events – and you very quickly come to rely on each other for advice and support. What really stands out about the other BAs is that no one takes themselves too seriously and you can always rely on each other for help.
What made McKinsey the right choice for you?
I am passionate about working in the social sector, working to improve people’s lives. Working at McKinsey gives me the opportunity to learn the skills that will really make a difference, as well as getting exposure to clients at leading NGOs and governmental organizations. The fact that the people here are so great to work with - smart, fun and truly inspiring – is an added bonus.
What have you been working on recently?
Four months in to my time here and I am working on my dream study. We are working with a leading development NGO to help them understand how they can most effectively interact with the private sector. Despite only a few months experience at the firm I will be helping to run a workshop with the CEO and leadership of the charity - the sort of opportunity that would be difficult to find anywhere else.
How are you able to add impact to your team in a given engagement?
As a BA you are expected to make the same contribution as any other team member, whether it is building a model, problem solving with your team or contributing to client meetings. What is really rewarding is how much your views and perspective is valued, both internally and with clients.
What type of training have you been offered since starting at McKinsey?
The training opportunities you have at McKinsey are endless. Not only do you have a specific training programme you can also pick from a range of different optional courses each week, the only problem is finding the time to do them. However, the most useful training is on-the-job learning from the people you work with.
