What prompted you to investigate a career in consulting?
I worked in industry in a general management role and realised that I really enjoyed the strategy/planning part of my job...I thought I wanted more of that. In addition, I felt increasingly as thought I was working on my own, and the team structure of consulting appealed to me.
What has been your biggest challenge while at McKinsey?
Honestly, it's having two kids while working in a rather competitive sector (I work mostly with corporate and investment banks). At the same time, I sometimes think my maternity leaves have given me more perspective and created the ability to periodically step back and ask myself whether this is really what I want to do...and it is. I think I have the most interesting job of anyone I know.
What has been your greatest moment of satisfaction while at McKinsey?
It was probably the first time a senior client turned to me and said 'What is your view, what should I do?' Getting to the point where people really trust you to advise them is a big deal.
