Interviewing Process

The assessment process typically consists of two to three stages.

Pre-Interview Screen

Prior to inviting you to the first round of interviews, you may be asked to sit the McKinsey Problem Solving Test.

The problem-solving assessment has been specifically designed to assess certain basic skills that we believe are essential elements of success at McKinsey. The test consists of 26 multiple choice questions. You will be given 60 minutes to answer as many questions as possible.

It does not assume any particular prior academic or business experience.

Round 1

You will have two 60-minute interviews, each consisting of a case study and a personal experience example.

As part of each interview, you will be asked to discuss a business case with your interviewer. Please note that no specific prior business knowledge is assumed, and you can expect the case discussion to cover both familiar and unfamiliar business areas.

The second part of your interviews will focus on your past experiences giving you the opportunity to talk about yourself and your accomplishments. The discussion will focus on occasions where you have played a significant role and feel comfortable talking about these in detail. Possible scenarios could include working in a team, taking on a leadership role, or pursuing significant goals.

Final Round

This is a half-day assessment that will consist of some combination of:

  • Business case interviews
  • Personal experience examples
  • One-on-one role play exercise
  • A written Advanced Problem Solving Test

These activities are designed to give you a better understanding of life as a McKinsey consultant and to give us an opportunity to assess how you would get on in the role.

Further information will be sent to you about the final round if you are successful at Round 1.
