A Week in the Life of Teppo
Assignment: The new CEO of a global basic materials company wanted to check that the business plans in each segment and geographical region were sound, given rapidly changing industry and competitive dynamics. In Asia, we would need to conduct an underlying market analysis of each segment in each country, and review the company’s financial performance, production footprint, and organisational capabilities, as well as its three year budgets and planned EBIT improvement initiatives.
Goals for the week: This was the first week of the nine week project. Our goals were to launch the Asian team, and to map out an approach to the analyses we would conduct over the following 8 weeks.
Findings: The whole team, including four client members, got together for the first time on Wednesday. Our advance preparations enabled us to "take off from a running start". From day one, we found a common approach to tackling the key issues and built a good rapport.
Impact on the client study: Our work this week resulted in a structured work plan for the rest of the assignment in Asia, based on an understanding of the burning issues in the region. Our interviews with several Country Presidents of the business also enabled us to highlight new opportunities that could be explored.
