Taking the next step in my consulting career
Before joining McKinsey I worked in the management consulting field for a number of years for both larger global firms and a local boutique firm. These experiences were very positive and proved to me that consulting was an exciting and fulfilling career choice.
When the opportunity arose to join McKinsey, I recognized it as a chance to become part of the leading global management consulting firm and to work with the best minds in the industry. What particularly attracted me was knowing that my abilities and thinking would be challenged and improved by constant interaction with very bright minds.
World-class resources at your fingertips
I expected McKinsey to offer excellent, leading-edge resources to its consultants and clients, but I was amazed at the breadth, depth, and quality of the resources that were available to me from day one. The firm makes a huge investment in its knowledge base, so teams offer unique insights to clients.
Consultants are also encouraged and expected to reach out to and contact leaders within the firm to improve the quality of service they provide to their clients. In a few short months, I have reached out to colleagues across North America, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe—any knowledge I need is only an e-mail or phone call away.
Global culture built on shared values
McKinsey is a large firm with many offices around the globe. This offers numerous benefits to consultants and clients alike, but it could also present challenges in terms of maintaining firm cohesiveness and ensuring a common standard of quality client service. However, I have used materials developed by teams around the world, and the common approach to problem solving and communication, as well as the consistent standard of quality displayed in these materials, enabled me to start working with them immediately. All of this is possible because of firmwide commitment to a set of compelling values and to a globally integrated approach to professional development. I did not join an office or a regional practice; I joined a global firm, and the professionals across the globe within the firm are all truly my colleagues.
