McKinsey’s Africa Delivery Hub helps governments and social-sector institutions to address complex public and social challenges. Our purpose is to drive significant, tangible, and lasting improvements in service delivery to African citizens. What we do
Our consultants focus on helping Governments and Social Institutions deliver results that citizens may touch, see and feel. Building our client’s capabilities, providing coaching, and driving transformation are central to what we do.
We use a delivery labs approach to translate policy into action plans with strong stakeholder buy-in. This is followed by preparing the organization to drive public transformation through a highly capable delivery unit bringing the best of the organisation to the forefront of transformation. A typical project takes between 6 months and 2 years to complete.
Consultants in our Africa Delivery Hub develop skills that include:
- Solving critical problems and analyzing data to uncover challenges and opportunities that have been overlooked. Consultants help clients to identify underlying issues in their organizations and work out how to resolve them.
- Driving delivery by working with government leaders, donors, and experts from relevant fields to devise initiatives, develop detailed plans, and move from strategy to tangible results.
- Managing performance by working with clients to set targets and milestones, create and manage performance-tracking systems, and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Building capabilities among client leaders and teams to tackle gaps quickly and ensure projects are left in the hands of skilled stand-alone client teams that can train other leadership teams in turn.
What we look for
The Africa Delivery Hub is hiring Public and Social Sector analysts, senior analysts and associates in Addis Ababa, Johannesburg, Lagos, and Nairobi. Examples of suitable candidates include medical doctors with experience of hospital management, engineers with project or contract experience, education professionals with a record of driving programs or institutions, managers in the agriculture and agro processing industries with a record of transformation and delivery, civil servants in delivery functions at government or municipal level, and candidates with experience in development economics. Demonstrated social entrepreneurship or public responsibilities are a plus.
Analysts and Senior Analysts
To become a Public and Social Sector analyst or senior analyst you need between 2 and 6 years of experience in government or social sector organizations and a record of driving impact in your field. Ideally, you will have a background in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, or education, as well as experience of working in Africa.

Ideally, you will have a background in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, or education, as well as experience of working in Africa.
You also need sound reasoning and critical-thinking skills, outstanding academic achievement, impressive career development, and a passion for advancing Africa’s economic development. Successful applicants will hold doctorates or master’s degrees in subjects such as medicine, engineering, law, public affairs, economics, planning, or related disciplines.
