David Hunt is a senior partner in McKinsey New York office, where he specializes in serving financial institutions on a broad range of strategic and organizational issues.
Hunt is the current co-leader of our Global Wealth Management practice and speaks and writes widely on industry issues. He has led a variety of internal knowledge building efforts on strategy and skills, and his thinking can be found in the European Wall Street Journal, The McKinsey Quarterly, The New York Times, Euromoney and other financial publications.
Over the last several years, Hunt has carried out a wide range of engagements in the wealth management industry. These assignments have covered market growth and operational improvement strategies in private banking, asset management and brokerage businesses.
Over the last 2 years, Hunt has led a major internally-funded research effort to identify opportunities for financial services clients arising from the rapidly aging population. This research has led to new insights on customer behavior, future trends in retirement, new product innovations, and implications for the future of distribution and advice.
Hunt has had considerable international experience. Many of his wealth management clients have businesses with significant cross border components, which have required work in the Far East and the majority of EC countries. In addition, David worked in McKinsey European offices for five years and was elected to the partnership while part of the London office.
Hunt has played an active civic role in New York. He is on the board of overseers of the International Rescue Committee, and serves on the board of directors for Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and Graham Windham, the social services agency.
Hunt received his B.S.E. magna cum laude from Princeton University as well as an M.B.A. in finance and multinational management from the Wharton School.
