 Michael J. Wolf was a director at McKinsey & Company and is the former managing partner of the Media & Entertainment Practice. During his tenure at McKinsey, he focused on issues of organization, strategy, marketing, and operations that the media and entertainment industries faced. He has worked with business leaders in new and traditional media, spanning broadcasting, telecommunications, consumer electronics, cable, specialty retailing, electronics and entertainment retailing, financial services, music, publishing, Internet retailing, theme parks, sports, and consumer products. Wolf is the author of The Entertainment Economy: How Media Forces Are Transforming Our Lives (1999), which examined topics from the Internet and new media to selling movie tickets and records to teenagers. He is frequently quoted in such media outlets as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Forbes, Fortune, Daily Variety, Financial Times, The Hollywood Reporter, The Economist, CNBC, and CNN.
Before joining McKinsey, Wolf was the managing partner of the Entertainment, Media and Internet Group of another large consulting firm for more than 10 years. He holds a B.A. in international politics from Columbia University.
In November 2005, Wolf became president and COO of MTV Networks.
