George is the chairman and managing partner of McKinsey’s work in Greece and Cyprus. He joined the London office in 1994 and served as a coleader in the firm’s opening of the Athens office in 2000. Beyond working in Cyprus, Greece, and the United Kingdom, he has served clients in Egypt, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. George has worked extensively in the energy, financial, industrial, infrastructure, and transportation sectors. Additionally, he has led major efforts related to economic policy and development, with particular focus on structural reforms and growth-enabling policies.

Examples of George’s recent work include the following:

  • Financial:
    • helping execute transformation programs for three banks and two insurance companies
    • setting up a new bank and restructuring two others
    • assisting companies with risk and capital management, including collections (both corporate and retail), digital lending for small businesses, small and medium-size enterprises, and risk-weighted-asset optimization
    • leading reorganizations and business-model reconfigurations
  • Energy and industrial:
    • helping an operator of an electrical utility and distribution system with its turnaround and transformation
    • creating energy-transition and sustainability strategy for oil and gas and industrial clients
    • applying worldwide end-to-end advanced analytics in cement operations
  • Infrastructure and transportation:
    • helping a leading med port and an international airport strategize
    • deploying advanced analytics in commercial functions and pursuing a maintenance optimization program for an airline
    • conceptualizing the development and strategic plans for a large, mixed-use real-estate development project in Europe and a feasibility plan for a new eco-city
  • Economic policy and development:
    • developing Greece’s economic plan to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
    • performing concept development and feasibility studies for the setup of an artificial intelligence research center
    • leading the 'Greece 10 Years Ahead' project defining Greece’s national growth strategy deep diving in 14 economic sectors
