I joined McKinsey because of the unparalleled opportunities offered and the chance to develop professionally at an unmatched pace. As an MD, I knew I would focus my career within healthcare; McKinsey provided the ability to explore the sector broadly and to figure out where I want to devote my time and energy. Over five years I have helped health systems, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, healthcare IT players, public agencies, and biotech and medical device firms solve critical problems across a range of functional areas (strategy, marketing, organization, etc.).
Pursuing a passion for healthcare
More recently I have found a passion for helping health insurers deliver better healthcare and value to their members. I find the work that I do now more inspiring and energizing than anything I’ve done before—which has helped me feel sure that I am at the right place now and give me confidence about the types of organizations I might want to be part of in the future.
Exceeding expectations with each new role
Each year and role at McKinsey brings new challenges and skills. As soon as you feel a little comfortable you are asked to stretch more; this creates an environment in which your professional growth far exceeds anything you might expect. You begin to understand the perspective of senior executives and Fortune 500 CEOs and learn to inspire teams, all while delivering meaningful and transformative support to your clients.
Lasting rewards and a strong community
Saying that the people I work with and the client impact I have are the best things about McKinsey is very common around here, as most of my colleagues would cite both as well. McKinsey is also a place that respects and rewards creating your own path over time. The West Coast in particular is a great place to do both given our strong community, terrific attitude, and stunning locations in which to live.
