While I was an undergraduate at MIT, I was in a dynamic environment of academia and application, learning from the diverse group of people around me. As I explored what to do next, I looked for another environment where the resources to learn and do seemed endless, and McKinsey was that place. The work at McKinsey provides unrivaled exposure to industries, practices, and markets. The people at McKinsey have a range of unique interests and backgrounds yet a common focus on developing necessary skills. Here I can actively participate in industries of interest while receiving mentoring to build skills such as strategic problem solving, communication, and client development.

Following my passion and having lasting impact

McKinsey has opened the door for me to learn about healthcare and to have real impact at our clients. From the start, professional and personal development went hand in hand. I came to the firm with a strong desire to explore healthcare. In my first nine months, I worked on studies that ranged across health systems, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and global public health. McKinsey also pushed me to broaden my work in healthcare. I contributed to engagements focused on strategy, organization, implementation and more. As a business analyst, I was challenged with opportunities to lead client discussions, tackle difficult business problems and openly vocalize my perspectives. The McKinsey leadership and Professional Development teams have without a doubt empowered me to “Make my own McKinsey.”

Finding continuous inspiration in my colleagues

I am continually inspired by the people of the West Coast office. The people are the critical component of the innovative and meaningful work the West Coast does from serving up-and-coming tech firms to universities to top 10 health systems. Beyond the work, the people are core to the strong sense of community. Although each McKinsey experience is different, the common bond of the firm resonates with each individual. There is a mutual sense of respect across tenures that allows relationships to develop organically. In this community, I’ve found some of my closest friends and mentors.
