About Thomas

Thomas is the managing director of McKinsey’s Southern offices, where he serves global energy, chemical, and technology clients. He is a leader in the Electric Power and Natural Gas (EPNG) Practice in North America and Europe, and the leader of the Firm’s global Oil & Gas Practice.

Recent client contributions included supporting the set up of operations and supply for a large incumbent retail arm of a Texas utility, an effort that spanned IT systems, supply processes, and operations.  He also led sales and marketing initiatives and strategy development in territory and out of territory for an incumbent EPNG retailer in Texas with residential and B2B customers.

Thomas brings extensive strategy experience in the oil and gas and energy sectors as well. He identified global trends and strategic implications for a major oil company, developed 2050 energy demand scenarios for a large European utility, and contributed to the renewables strategy for a market leader in North America. He has also supported strategy efforts for mining and steel companies.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Thomas built and managed a technical consulting firm serving clients in Europe and Asia. During a stint in academia Thomas conducted research on various energy-related topics, contributed papers to several publications as well as co-authored books, and also served on several boards and working groups including state energy advisory councils.
