McKinsey Southern US

Back to Careers in the Southern US

I grew up in Colombia and moved to the United States at age 18 to go to university. During my senior year at Stanford I became interested in consulting for two simple reasons: having an impact in the world was very important to me (but was not sure how to do this or in what area), and I knew I wanted to see the world. As I looked at my options, no other company offered that combination or felt obliged to offer those opportunities. I knew that I wanted to join McKinsey.

Global village

They say “the world is a small village,” and this definitely applies to McKinsey. From very early on I was able to experience a wide array of industries around the world. The opportunities are endless. Recently, in just a few months, I served clients in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North and South America. But most importantly, you learn from different cultures and ways of life within the firm. I have been on projects where each team member was from a different country. It is a thrilling experience to be able to interact and learn from such a diverse group of exceptional people.

Personal impact

I’m privileged to work with companies of all sizes, and have real impact on their financial performance, from designing a winning growth strategy, to improving the efficiency of day-to-day operations by orders of magnitude. Over time, however, what has come to matter most to me is having impact on the individual clients I serve. At McKinsey, we truly work hand in hand with clients, and this results in rewarding counseling relationships and long-lasting friendships. My professional career is something that I evaluate constantly. The world is large, and possibilities are endless. McKinsey is a place that challenges you from the moment you start, and it never stops. Every time I make my assessment I ask myself simple questions: Am I still excited, and am I continuing to learn and grow professionally and personally? The answer at every turn has been a clear yes.
