McKinsey Southern US

Back to Careers in the Southern US

As I started my senior year of college I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do professionally. Through a wide variety of internship experiences, including a summer of investment banking, I learned I wanted to run my own business, but lacked the necessary skills to do so. Virtually every conversation I had regarding where the best place to go to develop these skills came back to McKinsey.

What makes me passionate?

From day one I was pushed to do things I did not think I was capable of doing—from running client meetings to pushing our thinking on key issues that had meaningful implications for some of the world’s largest companies. I have had the opportunity to do everything from helping a company stay independent during a hostile bid offer to creating a long term strategy for a leading retailer. Each day brings a new set of challenges and a new opportunity to grow individually. The work is intellectually tougher than I thought it would be, but also more stimulating and rewarding than I ever imagined it could be.

However, what surprised me the most about McKinsey was the people. I expected to be surrounded by highly intelligent and successful individuals, but I've also found them to be interested in helping others succeed both inside and outside of work.

An unrivaled environment

Since joining the firm many of my Southern office colleagues have become what surely will be life-long friends. The entire office is committed to both helping each other grow professionally and also personally. From quarterly BA off-site gatherings, to international retreats with the entire Southern office staff there is a true sense of community and camaraderie. The Southern office is an unrivaled environment to learn, grow and—most importantly—have fun.
