About Peter
Peter Stevens is a principal in McKinsey’s London office and leads our Operations Practice in the UK. He also leads McKinsey’s Production Systems Design Centres, our internal academies for developing operational transformation expertise, based in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Peter brings his deep expertise in operational transformation to clients from a range of industries. In recent years his work has focused mainly on the consumer sector.
In a project for a packaged goods company, Peter led a McKinsey team supporting the client’s manufacturing transformation programme in 70 locations across the globe, provided coaching to the programme director and worked on capability building with senior change leaders. For a client in the beverages industry, Peter headed a programme to design and implement a lean manufacturing facility across a network of more than 20 plants across Europe, while building client capabilities to ensure that the programme could be rolled out successfully beyond the initial five plants.
Peter’s work in other sectors includes co-leading a team helping a retail bank to design a lean branch and roll it out across a network of more than 2,000 locations; supporting a pharmaceutical company in standardizing operational best practices across all its facilities worldwide; and advising on a plant-wide technical and cultural transformation in a regional aircraft manufacturing plant employing 5,000 people.
Before joining McKinsey, Peter worked as an executive team member at Airbus, where he was responsible for a manufacturing transformation that delivered an improvement in internal quality performance of 50 percent, a reduction in costs of 25 percent and a fivefold improvement in delivery performance. He has also served as European director of a boutique consultancy specializing in lean manufacturing, as senior manager in supplier development at BMW Rover and as a technical support engineer at Toyota, where he helped to introduce the Toyota Production System into the company’s European supply base.
