About Julian

Julian Mills is a principal in McKinsey’s London office and a leader in our global Infrastructure and Travel, Transport & Logistics practices. He works extensively with some of Europe’s largest infrastructure owners, including airports, railways, urban transit agencies and energy utilities. He has also advised a range of clients in North America, continental Europe and Asia.

Julian’s recent work includes supporting the successful merger of two carriers to create one of the world’s top five airline groups. His work focused on network, ground handling, procurement and engineering integration. In another project, he wrote a leading hub airport’s submission to government on capacity expansion, connectivity, carbon emissions and noise reduction. He has also advised the mayor of a major city on reconfiguring its bus, metro and rail networks and turned around the operating performance of a major European bus and rail player through improved maintenance, rolling stock management, network design and revenue management.

Julian is a frequent speaker at conferences and has written a number of reports and articles on infrastructure, most recently Keeping Britain Moving on the UK’s £350 billion transport challenge.

In addition to his client work, Julian is co-founder and CEO of the Global Infrastructure Initiative, a gathering of the world’s 150 most influential infrastructure leaders—ministers, mayors, CEOs and investors—who control much of the $20 trillion that the world will spend on infrastructure over the next decade.

Before joining McKinsey, Julian helped lead the successful turnaround of a $1 billion private business, where he was interim commercial and marketing director. He holds an MBA from Stanford University, where he was an Arjay Miller scholar, and a BA in classics and philosophy from the University of Oxford.
