About Jack

Jack Bertram is a principal in McKinsey’s London office. The main focus of his work is advising clients on travel and logistics issues. He has worked extensively with tourism, shipping, airport and postal operators and has a special interest in commercial strategy, business-to-business pricing and yield management.

Jack’s recent projects include working with a travel business to turn around its profitability by reducing cost and managing cash while building its customer experience, helping a European postal operator argue for an improved regulatory model to improve the profitability of the business and better meet customer needs, and supporting a container shipping operation in transforming its pricing and yield management to improve utilisation and capture more high-value cargo.

One of Jack’s main interests is applying advanced data analytics to identify commercial opportunities in complex network-based travel businesses: for example, optimizing the routes in a shipping network to reduce cost and improve reliability, or finding the pockets of profitability within the flows of a logistics chain that offer the greatest opportunities for growth.

Outside his client work, Jack is responsible for leading McKinsey’s graduate programme in London, including the recruiting and development of all our business analysts.

Before joining McKinsey, Jack worked in the data communications industry. He has a degree in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Oxford.
