We want to help our new recruits get off to the best possible start, so we’ll be in touch before you join us and support you throughout your first year.
Before you begin
To help you understand what your job involves, we’ll send you a fact pack a few weeks before you join us. It contains essential information about McKinsey and the basics of consulting.
Early days
In your first three days with us, you’ll attend an initial training session and get an introduction to the Swiss office and how it works.
Finding a buddy
When you arrive we’ll allocate you a “buddy” in the Swiss office who will help you settle in professionally and personally. Many people stay in touch with their buddies for a long time and value them as part of their growing personal networks.
Acquiring a development group leader
As well as finding you a buddy, we’ll assign you to a partner who will act as your development group leader. Your DGL will coach you, monitor your professional development, and help you with professional and personal issues.
Preparing for consulting
Before you start work on your first client project, we’ll send you on our Basic Consulting Readiness Training program to introduce you to consulting at McKinsey. This is a week-long international training program covering the basics of problem solving, case studies, teamwork, communication, and our core values.
Learning about business
If you don’t have an economics background we can offer you a Mini-MBA course to introduce you to the essentials of business and finance. This international three-week program covers business concepts, organization, micro-economics, finance, and strategy.
Building relationships
During your first six months we’ll invite you to our rookie camp: three exciting days in the Alps where you’ll meet other new hires from the Swiss office. You’ll take part in team-building activities to help you develop your social skills and get to know your colleagues better.
