About Luis
Luis Abril is a Partner in McKinsey’s Madrid office and co-leads our work in the energy sector in the region. He has supported leading utilities in Europe, Latin America, and Africa in developing strategy, strengthening operations, improving environmental sustainability, and defining their approaches to regulation.
Luis’s work has included designing and implementing programs to optimize the operations and maintenance cost base for several utilities—leading to cost reductions of 10 to 20 percent. He has supported utilities in shaping supplier development programs, and in conducting capital expenses prioritization exercises that have delivered annual capex savings of 10 to 25 percent.
Luis has also helped utilities define their regulatory strategies in a diverse set of areas, including in price formation systems in electricity wholesale markets, capacity payments, transmission-constraints management, and end-user tariff structures.
Outside McKinsey, Luis is a member of Club Empresarial ICADE.
