Why McKinsey

The mix of business and technology has always been my passion, so when I saw an announcement about an international McKinsey event about business technology, I decided to give it a try. That led me to McKinsey’s internship program—and now I am a senior fellow in the Business Technology Practice.

Excellent working environment

One of the things I like most about McKinsey is the working environment. From the beginning, you get to work with exceptional people. Of course they’re smart, but that’s not all: even though they’re very busy, they don’t mind helping you any time you ask. You work closely with very different people, from fellows to partners—it’s truly a non-hierarchical environment.

Intense growing opportunities

You will never be in your “comfort zone.” Once you enter McKinsey, you start learning and you never stop. The firm provides you with unlimited sources of knowledge, such as participating in many different studies, attending face-to-face or online training sessions, attending an MBA program or completing an internship on the client side.

Prepare, prepare, prepare

To be a consultant, there is no need to have specific previous experience. So if you’re eager to learn, willing to grow both personally and professionally, and keen to have a lasting impact on business and organizations, you should apply to McKinsey. Prepare well for the interview, taking advantage of the help McKinsey provides through the Web site, recruiting events and coaching sessions. Be yourself, and be relaxed!

And once in. . .make your own McKinsey

What I like most about McKinsey is that it provides you with a wide range of opportunities to build your own path and set your own rules. Once you’re in, nothing is pre-determined: you can leave the firm for a while if you need extra time for personal reasons, you can work at another company for one year and then come back, or you can take time off to study for a master’s degree. The firm really invites you to shape your own McKinsey.
