Why McKinsey

I joined McKinsey as an experienced analyst, having worked as an entrepreneur in West Africa, a development banker in Southern Africa, and a financial consultant in Ireland. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and all I can say is that my experience so far has been much more challenging, rewarding, diverse, and interesting than I could ever have imagined. The nature of the work we do, and the personal and professional opportunities available to us, make McKinsey unique.

Personal and professional growth

From a professional point of view, I’ve been given enormous freedom and responsibility, and I’ve constantly been encouraged to step out of my comfort zone. I’ve worked in the banking, healthcare and transportation sectors, among others, in Africa, Europe and South America. And I’ve served leading national and international companies on important issues. These assignments have brought me tremendous professional and personal growth, and have helped me get to know the world a lot better.

One Firm

One of the most impressive things about McKinsey is that we operate as “one firm.” The amount of knowledge, expertise and resources we have here is simply mind-blowing—and we are all encouraged to make the most of them. You can simply pick up the phone and call a colleague anywhere in the world, and you will always find them willing to help. You are never alone!

Be yourself

One of the best pieces of advice I got before and during the recruitment process was: be yourself. McKinsey values diversity and is a true meritocracy. Here, you will be judged for who you are and what you do – so make sure you show the real you in the interview process.
