A unique value proposition

What attracted me to McKinsey was the opportunity to work with outstanding people, for leading Spanish companies in a wide array of industries, on projects that address their most important strategic issues. The rapid learning curve was also very appealing: it could put me on a fast development track, either as a consultant or toward a management or strategy position.

The thrill of real challenges

The nature of our work and the mind-set that McKinsey fosters from day one makes strategy consulting a constant challenge. I’ve been pushed out of my comfort zone continuously, developing new skills in every project. For example, after building a complex plant-optimization model that put my analytical skills to the test, I was asked to lead the transformation of a sales force, which challenged my people skills.

A team of exceptional people

McKinsey’s greatest asset is its people. There is so much to learn, professionally and personally, when you’re surrounded by high performers who have strong personal values and real inner drive. And McKinsey’s culture fosters development. For instance, I wasn’t surprised to learn that partners invest 5-to-10 percent of their time in people development, including formal feedback, evaluations, and people initiatives.

Work hard, play hard

The “work hard, play hard” motto fits perfectly at McKinsey. I don’t have as much free time as I did at university, but I’ve learned to use it more efficiently. I’ve even found that there’s room for some of my personal passions, such as card magic. One of my clients has actually asked me to perform my show at their Christmas dinner this year!
