About Alex
Alex leads our Retail and Consumer Goods practice in Russia and CIS, and a leader in the practice Europe-wide. He leads our work on retail improvement in developing markets and development of digital marketing.
Alex’s work in the retail sector focuses on developing store formats; improving store operations efficiency, supply chain and purchasing systems; and supporting M&A strategy. In fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector he works with clients on distribution management, branding, and brand portfolio management across different consumer segments. He serves individual entrepreneurs and corporate clients in CIS, Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the US.
Alex’s recent contributions to consumer packaged goods (CPG) client projects include developing and implementing a new distribution system for a leading CPG firm and optimizing the brand portfolio in emerging markets for another global consumer products company. In the M&A area he supported the merger and post-merger integration of two leading food-market firms.
His work in for retailers spans several functional areas. He recently helped develop and implement a guerrilla marketing campaign for a top-ten international company and also supported a strategy development effort for an internet retailer. He also refined supply-chain strategy for a leading food retailer and led the design and implementation of a new store format for a leading apparel retailer. He contributed to the operating performance improvement ("100 days") program for a leading retailer following its acquisition.
Alex is the author of various publications and research on the consumer goods sector, including “Lean Russia. The productivity of retail,” "The decade ahead: Trends that will shape the consumer goods industry,” and “How half of the world shops”.
Before joining McKinsey, Alex managed acquisitions and turnarounds of assets in Russia and Eastern Europe for Western private equity funds and he was in charge of operations at L’Oreal Group.
