About Pedro
Pedro Carvalho is a principal in McKinsey’s Lisbon office and a leader of our European Corporate Finance Practice. He has worked with major organizations in the financial, telecommunications and public sectors, across Europe and Latin America.
Pedro has extensive experience in advising clients on corporate and project finance, governance, and portfolio strategy—including designing alternative divesture and growth strategies, analyzing and valuing specific potential targets, setting up financing structures, and supporting negotiation processes.
Pedro’s work in financial services includes helping major European financial institutions define M&A and growth strategies; implement ambitious performance improvement programs; and enhance product strategy and network efficiency. For example, he has worked with a major national financial group to define its international alliance strategy; and he has helped a major retail bank design a detailed corporate banking strategy in the context of Basel II capital requirements.
In the public sector, Pedro has played an active role in some of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Portugal and the UK. His focus has been on valuing and structuring project finance, and on designing public-private partnerships involving multiple state institutions and commercial actors.
Pedro started his professional career in politics as one of the youngest members of Portugal’s National Parliament.
