Why I decided to apply
I came across McKinsey for the first time in a paper in which they had done a high level estimate of the size and cost of a space-based solar power station (in the sixties!). I thought that was pretty cool. Ultimately, the idea of complementing my engineering background with business experience in an environment strongly focused on personal development motivated me to apply.

Proudest moment
When a member of the management team pitched an idea to his CEO that I had developed together with him, and the CEO decided to pursue it further. It was quite awesome, feeling that kind of trust.

What next?
I would like to get more experience in marketing and sales projects. After my MBA, I realized there was more to it than meets the eye.
Most important lesson I learned from a client
Check facts quickly on the back-of-the-envelope to test the big picture. A client was extremely effective in using back-of-the-envelope calculations to do very quick checks of information and proposals he was given. It was pretty impressive to see how many years of experience could be boiled down to a few rules of thumb.

Usual Suspects remains a favorite—though it is a shame that you can’t really watch it a second time…
My toughest day/moment
Working on an engagement where the people we were working directly with really did not want us there. It can be quite disheartening if you honestly believe you are trying to develop good new ideas with clients and they flatly reject everything you suggest or do. Luckily, a bit of patience, good will and just being yourself can go a long way to restoring a healthy working relationship, and it worked with that client in particular.
